Project Description: In response to the requirement to reduce combined sewer overflows to the White River and improve the undersized sewer system in downtown Muncie, the Muncie Sanitary District (MSD) installed a new storm sewer system with the following key elements.

  • 5,000 feet of 12-inch to 96-inch storm sewer with depths up to 20 feet
  • 50 inlets
  • Liberty Pass Canal feature with adjacent multi-modal trail (future Cultural Trail connecting Ball State and downtown Muncie), landscaping, seating areas, overlook areas, and future pedestrian bridge crossing the White River

By resolving Muncie’s downtown drainage problems, the project opens the door to renewed interest in revitalizing Muncie’s downtown area and is the first step of a much bigger plan.

Approximate Project Cost: $9.65 M

Breadth of Services Provided: Project Management, Survey, Design, Construction Administration, Construction Inspection
