United Responds to INDOT’s Call

On Friday, February 15th at the beginning of evening rush hour, a lift being haulAdam Tooed by a semi-truck struck the Virginia Avenue Bridge over I-65 northbound and I-70 eastbound.  INDOT responded on-site within minutes restricting and closing the interstates to assess the damage.  United Consulting was contacted by INDOT to assist in the assessment and collaborate with INDOT on the design for repairs.

United’s Senior Engineers and Bridge Inspection Program Manager assessed the damage including arm length inspections to document the results of the truck’s impact.  Concurrently, INDOT and United staff began evaluating potential repairs.  United’s design was completed just after 3:00 am early Saturday morning for INDOT’s review, in order for repairs to begin that same mInspection Adamorning.

The result of the collaboration was such that the design and repairs were completed in time for the interstates to be reopened before the Monday morning rush hour.   For additional information click here:  INDOT’s Press Release   

 

2013 Excellence in Concrete Pavement Award

Each year the Indiana Chapter of the American Concrete Pavement Association present their awards to honor quality in constructed concrete pavements.  During the recent awards ceremony, United Consulting was presented with an Award of Excellence in the Divided Highways (Rural) category for the I-69 Corridor, Section 2, Contract 5 Project in Pike County.

2012 Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana Award

2012 APAI AwardUnited Consulting was awarded a 2012 Pavement Award within the category of Governmental – City, County, Parks, & Schools from the Indiana Chapter of the Asphalt Pavement Association.  United served as the design engineer for the City of Wabash’s project:  Northeast Business Complex Section 1, Phase 1 Road.  This project included design and construction of the entrance road into the complex as well as left turn lane improvements along SR 13.

Indianapolis Cultural Trail Wins 2012 Monumental Award

On November 15, 2012, the United Consulting/Rundell Ernstberger Asociates, LLC teamMonumental Award received the highest honor at the 35th annual Monumental Affairs Awards Ceremony.  The team was awarded the Monumental Award for the Indianapolis Cultural Trail:  A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick.  The Monumental Award is the highest honor presented at this annual event sponsored by the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.  United Consulting also received an Honor Award for the Indianapolis Cultural Trail project in the Engineering category.

The Indianapolis Cultural TrCultural Trail Superbowlail:  A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick is a world-class facility combining eight miles of bike and pedestrian paths with existing urban roadways in a safe and practical way while providing connectivity to five major cultural destinations and the entire Indianapolis greenway system.  The project includes construction of new, shared paths and sidewalks that incorporates art into public spaces while emphasizing green and context sensitive design.  Every intersection required careful consideration between vehicular, pedestrian, and bicycle traffic.  The project was a collaborative effort by the City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works, and Central Indiana Community Foundation.

Monon Trail Bridge over 146th Street Connects

Hamilton County is connecting communities with the Monon Bridge Main Truss being lifted into place.  The trail unites the Monon Trail between the cities of Carmel and Westfield and eliminates an at-grade crossing with the traffic on 146th Street.  Hamilton County wanted the bridge to represent the history of the Monon Trail by utilizing a bridge that resembles the railroad bridges of the past.  This video shows the placement of the main truss structure over 146th Street.
