PROJECT DESCRIPTION :

This project involved the selective demolition of the existing Sheep Barn and its replacement with a new, completely enclosed, climate-controlled exhibition facility available for a wide variety of uses throughout the year. The work consisted of demolition of the existing open-air exhibition space, construction of the new exhibition space, and remodeling of the existing office and dormitory spaces to the east and west of the exhibit hall. Special care had to be taken to work between the existing portions of the structure on the east and west ends as well as the existing basement at the south end of the building, all of which were to remain.

The new exhibition hall is completely enclosed and available for use year-round. It is designed to accommodate nearly any kind of exhibit function, from livestock to trade shows. Utility distribution was carefully laid out for a variety of exhibits, and finishes were selected for durability and ease of maintenance. The HVAC system was designed to provide the extensive ventilation needed in a livestock facility, as well as providing for human comfort. Structure layout and clear heights were designed with variety, ease and flexibility of exhibits in mind. The exhibit hall also includes new, greatly increased public toilet facilities, and a new public entrance lobby which highlights the new south facade. A new tractor-trailer loading dock is provided which also doubles as a livestock wash area.

The existing portions of the structure have been provided with new fixtures and finishes, a new concession area, exhibitor shower areas, and an ADA-compliant elevator for access to the second floor dormitory and meeting room spaces.
